Standing by Ziggy Stardust and the Spidermen from Mars

Well that’s weird isn’t it? I got for years and years without doing a music related post and here are two in successive posts. It wasn’t at all planned this way but on Sunday morning I was out early in London and was happening by a very famous music related location.

It was the very spot where a very famous album cover was shot for David Bowie.

Of course some, if not all of the premises that occupy the buildings have changed, in fact there is a Starman restaurant which pretty likely wasn’t there in 1972 but as I wasn’t around either, who can tell!

I had been here many times before of course as it features on my Music of London Rock & Pop Tour but I was enjoying a rare moment where I wasn’t rushing around and as I was just round the corner from where I was, I thought I’d pop over and see it.

Just 30 seconds walk away is the famous red telephone box that was on the back of the album cover. It’s hard to know for certain whether it is the very same telephone box but it is pretty much in the same place so it certainly could be and everyone assumes it is.

Sometimes you visit here and it is spotless and other times such as today it looks like someone is temporarily living in it. Such is London!

  1. Fantastic album, he is sorely missed.

I’m glad the red ‘phone box is still there. I thought they were replacing them all wit soulless, silver things?
