3 Hour Walking Tour of London

This walking tour of London is a wonderful introduction to the sights and sounds of London town.  This trip is generally by foot though if your interests take us that way, we may also make short trips on the tube.

Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament

First of all we will meet at Westminster and walk to the Houses of Parliament and see the giant clock tower of Big Ben.  Weaving through the statues s of old monarchs and Prime Ministers we will then make our way to Westminster Abbey whose origins date back to Edward Confessor back before the Normans in the 11th century.  Westminster Abbey is well known as the place of all Royal Coronations right up to our present Queen, Queen Elizabeth II and was also the site of the recent Royal Wedding with Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Leaving Westminster behind we take the short walk up to visit the gates of Downing Street, the home of the British Prime Minister and Chancellor amongst others.  This is the heart of government and all the surround imposing buildings are full of the comings and goings of government.  As we continue we pause at The Cenotaph, our primary national memorial to the fallen of the war-dead.

One of my better photos in Whitehall, London.

Continuing towards Trafalgar Square we will visit Horseguards Parade, home to the Household Cavalry.  Trafalgar Square itself is massive and surrounded by galleries and museums all of which are well worth a visit.  The square itself is dominated by Nelsons Column built to commemorate Lord Nelson following his magnificent though tragic victory at Trafalgar.  There will be time enough to take some classic London photos next to the fountains and lion statues.

From Trafalgar Square we will wonder up towards theatreland with a visit to Covent Garden.  Then onwards through Leicester Square, home of film premiers and on to Picadilly Circus, the original Time Square.  China Town is just a few streets away and from there we will enter the realms of the Royal Parks as we make our way towards Buckingham Palace, home of the The Queen and from where we might be lucky enough to see the famous Changing of The Guards.
