Crossing The River Thames By Cable Car

Sometimes when I am running tours, I get to do new things even in my home city.  Of course, that isn’t too hard when you live in London as not only is there a 2,000 year old back catalogue of things to do and see but there are new attractions cropping up by the day,

Last week, I had the pleasure of spending most of a week with a family of four who currently reside in San Francisco.   On one day, we took the cruise boat to Greenwich.

 

 

 

As they had two young boys who had different interests than many of my tourists, it gave me the chance to try a few new things away from the more traditional sights in Greenwich such as the Cutty Sark, Victorian Market and Naval Museum.

Greenwich has so much going for it, not least the Royal Observatory which has a great view from the top.

 

Of course Greenwich is world famous for the Greenwich Meridian

 

 

All of this and much more though wasn’t really the best thing which the young boys saw in Greenwich.  For them, I kept the best for last and after a supremely filling buffet at Jimmys World Food Grill at the O2 Arena, we headed back to central London via a cable car, or Emirates Airline as they like to call it, across the Thames.

The journey is about .62 mile or 1 kilometre and takes you up to 300 feet / 90  metres above the Thames.   I had to put music on the video to cover up the excited chatter of the family.  I’m also on the wrong side of the car for the very best views but there is still lots to see and I turn the camera round quite a lot.  Keep an eye out for the passenger jet taking off just a mile or so away at London City Airport.
