Rutland is often described as The County of Good Taste, that may be because it’s where I’ve moved to but perhaps it’s also due to the plethora of local food producers, cafes and restaurants.
Rutland is England’s smallest and some might say its prettiest county. One thing is for certain, Rutland lives up to its motto, Multum in Parvo or ‘much in little’.
The picture postcard county capital of Oakham is home to a select 10,000 people but offers a great range of things to do and see and some incredible local craft shops, cafes, bakers and butchers (count me in for original pork pies and stilton cheese) whilst gorgeous Uppingham is even smaller but renowned for its antiques and galleries.
Of course you can’t come to Rutland and notice the beautiful countryside all around, most of all Rutland Water, the largest man-made lake in the U.K.
Amongst the rolling hills of Rutland there are many attractive villages set in the wonderful English countryside full of chocolate box cottages and traditional country pubs.
