Lincoln Private Walking Tour

Lincoln is the capital city of Lincolnshire and one of the most picturesque and historic cities anywhere. Lincoln is one of the most beautiful and surprising hidden gems in the UK with a modern history going back to Roman times. Our Private Walking Tour is a great way to discover this beautiful old city which is great to visit year round, in fact is famous for its very popular Christmas market.

Lincoln is also home to the oldest bridge with buildings on it, like a smaller version of the famous old London Bridge. This one dates to 1160 or so.With cobblestone streets, colourful shops along Steep Hill, stunning historic buildings, and of course, the iconic Cathedral looking out over the city, Lincoln looks like a postcard picture.

Of course as well as some of the harder to find spots we have to see the great wonders of the cathedral and there is none greater than Lincoln Cathedral.

It may be time to catch our breath after making it up Steep Hill but the views are well worth it and there are lots of little shops to see.

Lincoln Cathedral was built in 1078 though it was remodelled a century or so later following a tremendous earthquake. The Cathedral dominates the whole city and is one of the finest and largest in Europe with the spire being 520 feet (160 metres tall).

After exploring Lincoln Cathedral it is time to visit an even older building in the form of Lincoln Castle which was built by William the Conqueror in 1066.

We can have a look in the towers and old Victorian prison and even walk along some of the medieval walls. It’s all rather Games of Thrones but better as it’s real! The castle is also home to one of only 4 original copies of the Magna Carta which you can see below.
