Helping Ukranian Refugees in Romania with “Inima de Copil” (Heart of a Child) charity.

Like many any of us, I’ve seen glimpses of the news of the illegal Russian invasion of Ukraine and was struck in one report of how civilians were lining up at the border with Romania with another line on the Romanian side of people waiting to take away strangers.

Romania is a country I’m very familiar with and with some very special people but it is in no-way a rich country and so I decided to donate a small amount of money to a fund set up by Romanians in the UK, fundraisers for “Inima de Copil”(Heart of a Child) a 35 year old Romanian Charity who are providing urgent help for Ukrainian Refugees, Mothers and Children.

The majority of refugees coming now to Romania in search for shelter are single mothers with children.

“The queue of Ukrainian refugees, desperate to flee the war raging in their home country, snakes for miles back into Ukraine from the crossing point at the Romanian town of Siret. Most of those trying to cross are women and children, due to Ukrainian rules restricting travel for men aged between 18 and 60.

On the Romanian side , volunteers hold signs offering accommodation, transport and mobile phone hotspots to allow refugees to stay in contact with friends and relatives back home. But the slow progress through the patrol area means the number of volunteers sometimes outnumbers the refugees available to be helped.

“It’s just heartbreaking,” says one Romanian volunteer, we are overwhelmed.” wrote British newspapers.

There is a high risk for Mothers that can’t find financial resources for day to day necessary for the children. Here we need to step up all and help. The needs are endless but the most important ones are food, a place to sleep, the need for hygiene products and any kind of support they can get to find a safe place.

Romania needs financial support to can cope with the wave of Ukrainian refugees now, Romanian citizens been the bravest these days.

Thousands of Volunteers, common people, companies, charities, all going the extra miles in giving all they can for helping the Ukrainian neighbours in fleeing the war zone.

Any small donation can make the difference between a hungry child or to feed a child, can shelter the single mums with their children.

Be generous and kind, be supportive and we thank you in the name of Ukrainian Children, refugees in Romania!

The link for donations that we have set up is: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/ukromania-for-ukrainian-refugees#start

Please note that you do not need to be in the U.K. or Romania to donate, anyone can from around the world and if I can afford to then I’d imagine you can too.

  1. I am currently up to the eyes in nappies, sanitary products, thermal blankets etc that are being sorted and loaded onto two trucks departing Monday for Romania and Poland. I agreed to be a collection hub for our local church and boy, have people responded. It restores your faith in people, doesn’t it, when we know so many struggle here but still find that bit extra to help out. The reality now is that even if the conflict could be ended today, the humanitarian crisis will get worse before it gets better.

    1. Yes it does. I’ve found during my 2 years of being Excluded that the average stranger cares much more than the average person I know. It’s all going to be a horrible mess 😦
