Though readers might not be aware, WordPress has been pushing another new editor for the last year or two. I’m always one who steadfastly refuses to embrace new technology (did I mention my 1990’s phone!!) but today they have stopped bugging me with prompt screens to use their new editor and instead made it the default.
Thankfully there is one last backdoor route to creating blogs in a similar way to back in 2012 and that’s what I’m using now. I don’t know why they have to keep changing things 🙂 I’m sure one day I might find a use for these fancy things but who knows when I’ll find the time to experiment with them.
Last night I received another call from the media asking me to appear on a late night national radio show. Sadly it really was too late for me especially given how exhausted I am having had such a crazy two weeks or more. I was sad to turn the invite down but did say I’d be happy to do a pre-recorded segment. Twenty minutes later they called back and said that would be great and so at around 10.15pm the how’s producers called me up and we recorded a segment that would be aired between 1-2am.
Dotun gave me plenty of time to talk at ease about the situation of Shielding and being #ExcludedUK with no income and no government support. As it was pre-recorded there was less of the pressure as they could take the bits they wanted and put it all together seamlessly.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Dotun Adebayo who has hosted the Up All Night programme for decades, I know I was listening to it in the early to mid 2,000’s and have done ever since.
Dotun is in many way like myself. He is quirky, original and off-beat and his Up All Night show is very unique. He also does features on things that no-one ever else does and does a great Obituaries show called Brief Lives.
It was really a nice surprise to get to speak someone I knew of so well and after we recorded out piece, Dotun was kind enough to chat off-air for 15 minutes. We really hit it off and had a great conversation and I’m glad to say I made him laugh a few times. Anyway, amongst other things we chatted about was inviting me back on the show in slightly more normal times to do a programme on off-beat London which I thought was really nice of him and he gave me his contact details to keep in touch. He was also very sympathetic regarding the whole situation in general and myself in particular.
He was a really nice and interesting chap and I’m sure he felt the same about me. This is my 5th major media appearance in 2.5 weeks which isn’t bad going and I know people in important places are hearing and to my surprise people tell me I am great on the TV and radio. I guess this is why the whole thing is snowballing, or maybe I am one of the few brave enough to speak out. Probably both but I will make the most of every opportunity to raise awareness and help others like myself.
I got to say I am not impressed with WordPress changes either, especially when it comes to pictures.

I haven’t tried that out yet. Why do they always have to change things. 8 years of blogging and not once have I ever needed any of these features.
