Modern day Grave Robbers who stole from my mothers grave

I wasn’t going to write anything today; I’ve had a chest infection which turned into bronchitis and then manifested itself into something like pneumonia for the last 10-12 weeks.

I have been out of the house only a handful of times in this time, two of which were to lay flowers on the grave of my mother.  It just happens that her birthday was the 14th March and the anniversary of her death is the 28th.

The weather hasn’t been nice, even though tomorrow is April 2nd, more snow is forecast and it has been generally a very bleak and snowy winter.   So it says something that on some days I haven’t been able to walk to the kitchen that I took the time, energy and a huge amount of coughing to walk a mile each way to All Saints church in Leavesden with flowers.

No-one else seems to leave flowers at her grave and it is often a bit sad given that the surrounding graves belong to people with seemingly larger, closer or more sentimental families.

So I went their at around 1pm on Wednesday in torrential rain with a second bouquet of flowers and stoof for half an hour under an umbrella keeping a very wet vigil.  It was the least I could do.

When I went back to church 2 days later on Good Friday, and naturally made a tiny diversion and was disgusted to see that the two bouquets of flowers had been stolen by a scumbag and my mothers grave lay once again empty and barren.

Whilst not the worst crime in the world when you have low-life terrorist refugees killing citizens and police in countries kind enough to give them refuge, elderly people being attacked and robbed for a few pennies, young people being abused by those in positions of trust; it is still I think a truly dispicable thing to do on the anniversary of someones death that is so clearly marked on the grave, perhaps 5 inches (10cm) from where the flowers laid.

The flowers themselves were not expensive, my mother like myself was rather frugal and would have though anything more than a few pounds to be a waste of money especially with people like this around.

So I’d like to thank this person for making a miserable day or so, somehow even worse.  Maybe next time they can just kick me in the teeth as it will be cheaper and less painful.  As it is a crime the police would not care to investigate, one can only hope one day they understand how such a seemingly simple and victimless crime and be such a horrible one.  If they don’t respect the dead or the grieving, it is unlikely they respect anyone else either.  I can only think whoever they might be, their mother is less proud of them than mine is of me.

Despite that, Happy Easter to everyone, I am going to tuck into my leg of lamb and roasted vegetables.
